Mike's Homebrewing Notes - First 2 Mr. Beer batches - 18-Jan-2009

First taste test of both batches ...

Honey Maiboch has a strong alcohol smell (very noticeable since moving fermenter into the cooler) ... nice almost amber color and still somewhat cloudy. Minor bubbles noted in the shotglass after the pour. Tasted good ... still slightly sweet, with a "bite", and faint honey taste (perhaps because I used a home-based apiary source?) ... estimated abv is 6.4% based on chart in MB brewing book.

Thinking I may bottle/prime just a few of these next Saturday, and let the remainder sit in the fermenter for an additional week (total of 3 weeks).

Brew Ha Ha - in pic below - not as noticeable alcohol smell but similar in color and cloudiness to the HM. Much more mellow on the taste buds and has a familiar taste. When this batch is ready, I will have to taste-test against Shiner to see how it compares! Think this is going to turn out very nice. Plan to follow the 2-2-2 rule ... but some bottles will definitely age (lager?) longer in the 'fridge.
