okay ... so here's a pic of the new me with my nephew Ian ... he's so cool to hang out with his weirdo Uncle Mike :o)
ACK! Where'd my hair go?!?

I had a very interesting interview at LabOne this morning with both the HR Recruiter and Laboratory Hiring Manager. I also managed to get a brief tour of the facility which was quite impressive. LabOne is the largest employer in the KC area for laboratory workers. Keeping my fingers crossed there!! Then, while waiting on I-435 for emergency workers to clear up a nasty accident, (hmmm ... tractor trailer rear-ended a Chevy Impala ... guess who won? I just hope there wasn't anyone in the back seat ...), I spoke with the HR manager at the Warrensburg Medical Clinic. Warrensburg is almost an hour east of where I am currently staying, btw. They have offered me the position at their clinic, and I have accepted on a tentative basis. I told them I would let them know for sure by Thursday (the latest I can wait to start on the date they want me to start work, which is August 11th.) It may seem strange that I am waiting to fully accept the offer, but the pay isn't quite what I can make here in the metro area (a difference of almost $6/hr!!) and I know that I shouldn't be too choosy, but I would hate to cost them money by starting the employment process on me, only for me to turn them down when an offer comes through at say, LabOne! They understand, and agreed to allow me until this Thursday to fully accept the offer . . . Well, I'm off to do some laundry and maybe watch a DVD when my sister gets home from work. Catch you later!

I'm BACK!!!!! . . . well . . . sort of . . . I am using my "landlords" internet access right now - dial-up access really stinks, btw!!! So I can access some of my email accounts (my hotmail and my student.rsu.edu account, but not my webmaster@michaelfairbairn.com) and I can blog again!! I know I have just been introduced to the world of blogging, but I'm hooked!
to quote the Dead . . . "what a long strange trip it's been"
So, where to start? I have moved to Raytown, a suburb of Kansas City on the Missouri side. I am living in my sister's basement, which is cool [literally!!] and somewhat inexpensive. Have put out lots of applications, had several interviews, but no offers of employment as of yet. That sucks! But, something will come through before long . . . just have to keep a positive attitude!   :o)   Once I have my own place, I will be returning to Tulsa to U-Haul all my stuff up to here - many thanks to my cousin, Alex [aka: Tool], for the use of his garage as a storage shed. Speaking of Alex . . . he and his wife [Melissa] had their first child on last Thursday evening. Madelyn Price is a lovely little critter, and has wrapped her father around her pinky from the very start! But, I can't blame him, she kinda has her cousin wrapped too! What else?? My friends' band, Spank, played in Vegas last Friday night. I truly wish I could have been there, but the finances just wouldn't allow it. I'm not sure how they did, I have not been able to reach her over the weekend. But, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will get something good out of this gig! If nothing else, the PR should help them get more shows . . . and hopefully a fat record contract so they can be rock stars! YEAH!! I went to visit my mom and dad this weekend. She is doing great! She is so strong and has such a great attitude, the big C doesn't stand a chance in her. Many sincere thanks to all of you who have helped us with kind words and prayers - you all are the best!! Since her hair has started to fall out from the chemo, I decided to shave my head as well. Man am I white or what?!? I had my sister take a picture right after i shaved it, and as soon as I can, I will email/post it for everyone to see. I actually have less hair than mom right now! Of course, those who know me, know I will not be able to keep from growing my beard back, I mean, it's only been 2 days and I already miss it! But I am thinking of keeping my head shaved . . . I will just have to remember to put on sunscreen whenever I will be out in the sun!! hahaha Well, I think I will close this blog for now . . . hopefully I will be back online soon. My plans are to keep my phone as if I were still in Tulsa, so people there can call me and it will still be a local call. I will just get another cell phone here for local calls (since I get free long distance through Sprint). So if you want to chat, feel free to give me a call . . . best times are after 8p M-F and anytime on Sat/Sun . . . l8rz
